Lee and Mary's Gourmet Ice Cream's IT Globalization Plan

Coursework Instructions:

As companies grow and decide to compete internationally, they must formulate global information technology plans to manage their worldwide expansion. Many companies decide to outsource some of these IT projects overseas to gain competitive advantages. Lee and Mary’s Gourmet Ice Cream is a business in the middle of planning for a major global expansion. (See the attachment “Five-Year IT Global Strategic Plan.”) To facilitate this expansion, the company’s IT systems will need to undergo a major upgrade.
You have been hired as the IT consultant by the CEO of Lee and Mary’s Gourmet Ice Cream to recommend changes to the five-year IT globalization plan for the company. The CEO provided you with a version of the plan that focuses on the company expanding its business and technology into the international markets of Great Britain and Western Europe. Unfortunately, the organization’s chief information officer (CIO) just left the company for personal reasons, which leaves the company with some decisions still to make in regard to its technology infrastructures, processes, and systems to support the expansion. You were told that there is $20,000,000 available to improve technology systems and processes to meet expanded business goals. You are being asked to adopt the role of the recently departed CIO and to recommend updates to the existing plan. Your task is to evaluate the current five-year plan, research technological solutions, work with existing stakeholders, and then recommend changes to the “Activities” section of five of the plan targets.
REQUIREMENTS
Your submission must be your original work. No more than a combined total of 30% of the submission and no more than a 10% match to any one individual source can be directly quoted or closely paraphrased from sources, even if cited correctly. * Summarize the Current State of Each of the Following Established Technologies Related to the Targets in the Company's IT Globalization Plan.
The current data storage is not only costly but also hardware intensive. The plan indicates replacing or enhancing the current data capacities to facilitate international expansion. Dauvergne (2020) argues that data storage is critical for the company's productivity and globalization. In this context, there are various weaknesses concerning data storage evident in the plan: inadequate data storage capabilities, outdated storage technologies, insufficient backup, and inadequate recovery mechanisms. These weaknesses affect the company's overall scalability and performance since they influence decision-making and operations due to data loss, reduced accessibility to crucial information, and system downtime. The current Unified Communications System depicts inefficiency and ineffectiveness, particularly in recent cloud-based applications. The plan seeks to develop an automatic sales management system to facilitate globalization. The weaknesses of the Unified Communication System include ineffective communication channels, limited scalability, and integration failure between emailing systems, messaging tools, and conferencing (Dauvergne, 2020). Such deficiencies could adversely affect collaboration and smooth communication, thus delaying decision-making and reducing productivity and miscommunication.
The current Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) functionality does not support Lee and Mary's Gourmet Ice Cream's international expansion. According to Ursacescu et al. (2019), ERP systems are crucial for integrating and coordinating information to augment business operations. The plan shows the need to develop scalability and sustainability of the IT infrastructure to enhance expansion. The ERP system's weaknesses include outdated software, integration with other systems, inefficient reporting functionalities, and low customization abilities, which could hamper seamless business processes and accurate financial reporting. These weaknesses may cause operational inefficiencies as well as destroy the company's capacity to address market needs. In addition, the current Point-of-Sale (POS) framework is operated manually. The plan focuses on getting external IT operations to promote the primary ice cream business. The POS system weaknesses include insufficient inventory management, limited scalability, the absence of sales analytics in real-time, and inefficient transaction processing. These flaws could adversely affect consumer experience, decrease operational capabilities and sales tracking and thus influence the ability of the company to remain sustainable in the international market. In addition, Lee and Mary's Gourmet Ice Cream currently leverage a disintegrated Customer Relationship Management (CRM) framework. In this context, the company's information systems globalization plan demands a better network architecture to augment information-sharing capabilities. The weakness of the CRM system in the project includes inadequate lead management, unreliable customer da...
