When working as an intern in a community hospital, I interacted with several patients. I was touched by many of them as they informed me of their chronic medical conditions, thus sobbing uncontrollably. It was also hard when dealing with family members who had lost a loved one after investing so much in their treatment.

In order to help resolve the dilemma, I had to use my leadership style. I am a person who believes in participatory leadership. I believe that before making the final decision, all parties' views have to be considered. Also, I believe that when all people participate in decision making, they will not resist its implementation or feel offended, thus discouraged from working in a particular team or under my leadership. Therefore, I started by consulting the team involved in the patient's diagnosis, and those who had an express wish that their health condition should remain confidential.
