The music reflects the issues and the attitudes of people in society at a particular time. The creative process of making music is largely influenced by the issues and other aspects affecting society at any given time. Consequently, the chronology of events and evolution of attitudes and ideologies through time can be examined using music as a tool. The main theme of music in the 1960s was mostly romance and sexual relationships. Most artists during this period, especially female artists, spoke highly of love. They demonstrate a positive attitude towards love and romantic relationships, depicting it as the ultimate aspect that any woman could achieve. In addition, men are depicted as occupying a higher social position than women, whereby the latter are submissive to the former. For instance, artists such as Chiffons, The Supremes, and Peggy March highlight how women are dependent on men to a large extent. These messages convey a chauvinist society where women were largely dependent on men’s providence and care.
