John Kennedy’s speech is very poetic. Even if he uses simple words, the flow of his speech creates a strong emotional upheaval in the listeners. His choice of words creates a subtle and yet deep expression of something that has primordially existed in the experience of humankind. As he speaks about the sea, he presents a longing, or rather, a remembrance of something that connects us to the ocean and where we came from. He incites the excitement and curiosity of the listeners about the unknown. At the bigger perspective, his speech is a reminder that we are small as compared to the universe and that we are but a small speck of matter as compared to the vastness of the ocean. At the end of it all, we are part of a bigger whole. He uses many metaphors and similes in order to imbue his speech with meaning. He presents trivia to keep his listeners interested, and he flows with his words, and brings the attention of the listener towards his message.
The second reading has a better story telling and brings the attention of the listener to the imagery that the speaker represents. In the second reading, the speaker directly speaks his message, and provides examples and detailed descriptions. Because of this, he creates a relationship with his audience, wherein he brings them to a common and similar experie...
