In There There, Orange proves that there is no way to understand a person following a minimal interaction. While people may have the same roots, their experiences, particularly having been uprooted, shape different outcomes and perceptions of their cultural challenges. The novel ends with no finite solution or closure. Thus, the author leaves it to the reader to determine what is supposed to happen next and implies there is probably no solution. This view is consistent with the past and present predicaments of Native Americans and the society’s perceived inability to make concessions for the legacy genocide of this population.
