1 The article titled Canadian barley exports surging on booming demand from China for beer appeared on CBC’s website on 9th July 9, 2020. It reports how Canadian barley farmers are benefiting from an increase in exports to China. Canada exported 240,000 tons of the product in May, more than twice April’s amount, and most of which went to China. The article is related to globalization because it presents an example of independence of two the world’s economies-China and Canada- made possible by cross-border trade in goods, in this case barley.
2 On the United Nations website, I noticed a picture of the late former South African president nelson Mandela giving a speech at the Special Committee Against Apartheid in the UN general assembly back in 1990. At the time, he was just a representative of his political party, four years before becoming president. I was drawn by the picture because Mandela was famous worldwide for his fight against racial segregation in his country, and he always worked hand in hand with the UN to end the Apartheid policy.
