Greenwich University has moved in speed to ramp up its Covid-19 safety policy after 20 cases were reported on the Campus in early October. Among the infected are 18 students and 2 staff members.
The University has undertaken several measures to ensure on-campus safety like hall monitoring and supporting the infected members. It also has enacted various policy modifications to accommodate the virus including switch to online classes which extends onto next year’s intake. The campus also has walk-in testing center serving the immediate community and enforcing Covid regulations.
As a way to cater for the in-campus infections, the institution established an assistance program with isolation halls, information support, and reduced hall fees. Commenting on the state of Covid-19 management, the University’s VC, Jane Harrington noted that the Campus safety policy is “continuing to monitor the local situation closely and to follow all government and Public Health England Advice”. The walk-in test center intensifies the regulations in the campus by enforcing the distancing regulations and travel restrictions.
Recognizing the challenge presented by Universities opening, the VC insisted on the prioritization of student and staff health for the Campus’ safety. Its policy's coverage of the 2021 intake reiterates the University's commitment to Covid-19 safety. The VC also noted that she was “pleased that the students who have tested positive are doing well” indicating the effectiveness of the university’s safety policy. It has also provided an information line for parents to keep in touch with the pandemic progress in the university.
