1 How does being part of a cultural group provide people with a sense of security and belonging?

The sense of belonging improves the relationship with fellow members as well as increases the connection between them. People belonging to the same cultural group often feel emotionally connected, secure around each other and can deal with multiple challenges and difficulties they face. People belonging to the same cultural group are also likely to develop friendships and other relationships based on trust between them for the mere reason of being associated with the same cultural group.
Their uniqueness defines different cultures in carrying out specific activities, rituals or celebrations that unique to them. These defining activities bring them together increasing their sense of security and belonging. For example, cultural events and practices of the Canadian Aboriginals create a connection and a sense of belonging among the members who in turn own these practices and pass them on to their future generations.
2 How is mass media/social media affecting cultural change in society, especially to your generation?
The media is critical the widespread cultural change in the society. The media exposes various cultural activities to their audience thereby helping in spreading multiple aspects of culture. Consequently, the exposed cultural activities are likely to be absorbed by society resulting in a cultural change. For example, western cultural practices and celebrations such as the Halloween are gaining traction in the east in such countries as China thus proving the significance of the media in bringing change to the society.
Both mass media and social media are driving monumental cultural changes in the society today. For instance, the millennials are known to have embraced social media than any other generation. Consequently, social media platforms have become a driving force in bringing cultural change in society. For instance, the ‘fourth feminism wave’ is heavily reliant on social media to achieve its goals. The millennials are advocating for multiple social and cultural changes in the society through the use of social media. The mass media has been crucial in the ongoing cultural changes happening globally. For example, social media has been used by feminist activists in global movements such as the #MeToo movement and the SlutWalk movement taking place in countries such as Canada, United States, and China among others.
3 How do different theoretical perspectives help you understand and explain the various practices found within a culture?
Different theoretical perspectives help us understand different cultures and their practices. Sociologists use various theoretical approaches to explaining culture. Such approaches include conflict theory, symbolic interactionism, and functionalism. Conflict theorists argue that members of society interact with each other with constant episodes of conflict between them driven by various social issues such as age, social class, race and so on.
