The five techniques I would use to take notes effectively are the mind mapping method, the sentence method, the Cornell method, the outline method, and the flow notes method. I would use the mind mapping for subjects with intricate, abstract, or intersecting topics like history, chemistry, and philosophy. This note-taking method relies on using a map as a visual aid of how topics intersect. It also allows one to go into greater detail about broad general ideas by adding sub-concepts. This method is best for visual learners who have challenges studying through notes and people who need to recall and relate events with topics. I would also use the sentence method, which is a simple way of note-taking as it involves writing down everything the instructor says to the best of one’s ability. The sentence method requires the student to keep up with the lecturer; therefore, writing notes by hand may result in missing key ideas.
