The idea of Net-Centric computing is a relatively recent formulation, although in many ways it revisits the old architecture of mainframes and terminals. This netcentriccomputing.org definition is short and to the point:
"The underlying principle of Net-Centric Computing (NCC) is a distributed environment where applications and data are downloaded from servers and exchanged with peers across a network on as as-needed basis. This is in stark contrast to the use of powerful personal computers that rely primarily on local resources. In some respects, NCC resembles an earlier computing era of mainframes and centralized services. However, there are significant differences. For example, NCC relies on virtually portable applications running on multiple platforms, mobile data accessed via high-speed network connections, and low-cost appliances for local processing. In many ways, NCC is the enabling technology for a significant percentage of modern enterprise applications."
It is clear that this perspective commands a lot of interest and has some powerful forces behind it, not the least of which is the US Department of Defense. But it is also clear that like many powerful concepts, it is capable of being interpreted in so many different ways that its functional meaning is frequently obscure. To say, as one analyst has described it, that "the underlying principle of net-centric computing is that of an intelligent distributed environment where applications and data are available on demand" is to promise a great deal, but none of it particularly specific.
As in so many other areas, the problem is that systems have to be to be used by people. James Robertson has written a provocative article on 10 principles of effective information management (KM. 1 November 2005), that cogently describes what might be described as "people-centric" concerns, that constitute the day-to-day preoccupations of IT managers.
Your task in this module is to bring net-centric ideas to these people-centric problems. When you have reviewed the material in the background information regarding Net-Centric computing and related issues, and consulted any other material that seems helpful to you, please write a 3-5 paper discussing the question:
Analyze and discuss how Robertson's 10 principles apply in the context of a computer network.

It is important to read the "required readings" posted in the background material plus others you find relevant. Your informed commentary and analysis is vital -- simply repeating what your sources say does not constitute an adequate paper.
Overall quality: Your paper is well written and the references, where needed, are properly cited and listed (refer to the Student Guide to Writing a High-Quality Academic Paper) if you are uncertain about formats or other issues.

The main principle behind the working of the Network Centric Computing, also abbreviated as NCC, is the focus on efficiency. This efficiency is made possible through the streamlining of the operations and interactions between data, information and the various users of the platform. It is indeed worth acknowledge in the fact that there have been great advancements and achievements made in the technological field, headlined by the advent of cloud storage and increased sophistication of the microprocessor (Ghost, 2010).
Basically, there has been an increased ‘independent’ interaction between the technological elements, something that seems to have shifted the attention more towards information technology. However, in the same breath as well, there seems to be a more people-centric approach that also needs to be embraced in the implementation of NCC. This paper will highlight the various factors as they apply in the context of a network using Robertson’s ten management strategies. It will especially focus on NCC.
In the early days of computing, there existed the large mainframe computers whose operations depended on the use of dumb terminals. These terminals simply used to show what happened in the background. Later on, there was the upgrade of the computer systems in such a way that there was a powerful desktop that worked hand in hand with the servers to ensure communication and storage. The latest model is the NCC, whereby there are some form of ‘clients’ that emanate from the servers but are streamlined to prevent any redundancy. The streamlining ensures that there is a more efficient, reliable and powerful system.
James Robertson came up with a selection of ten points that he believes are the most appropriate when it comes to effective management of information. These are; recognition and management of complexity, focus on adoption, delivery of tangible benefits, prioritization based on the needs of the business and taking a journey of a thousand steps. Others include; provision of strong leadership, mitigation of risks, extensive communication, delivery of seamless and satisfactory user experience, and careful selection of the first project (Robertson, 2005).
There are many challenges that arise during the formulation and implementation of an information security system. Practically, there isn’t a perfect way of avoiding complexities in an organization. New approaches to solving such complexities need to be found, and this means that organizations need to depart from the simplistic method of handling complexities. When it comes to focusing on adoption, information management systems are effective only if they are embraced and implemented by the staff of the organization. The same applies to NCC.
