The sameness within a culture is primarily attributable to the environmental and sociopsychological factors. It can be explained through the perspective of social learning theory, which assumes that imitation of others is vital in how a person makes sense of objects and ideas in their surroundings and responds to external stimuli (Heine, 2020). Similarly, group identity and in-group favoritism explain the sameness within a culture where an individual sees the whole culture as an identical group and affiliates with that group (Smaldino, 2019). On the other hand, differences may result from personality-related differences among individuals rooted in their unique experiences and understanding of the world. Similarly, external sociological factors, such as immigration and globalization (e.g., the influence of Western culture on the East), may also trigger differences and polarization within otherwise identical cultural groups (López-Narbona, 2018).
