Social inequality on a macro and micro level plays an important role in causing drug abuse among people of different ages. Social inequality refers to the unequal distribution of resources among the populations. This means that many individuals in society would be poor due to the unequal availability of resources such as job opportunities (Kyllonen, 2018). Poverty is one of the major factors that contribute to drug abuse. People abuse drugs to evade the emotional and mental trauma of poverty. Therefore, as long as social inequality occurs, the chances are high that then affected individuals will continue to misuse drugs. The macro and micro levels of social inequality have similar impacts on drug abuse. These levels facilitate poor mental health, triggering drug abuse among the expected individuals. When people have enough money, the chances are high that they will have good mental health and will not need to hide their pain behind drugs. This means that they have fewer chances of being drug addicts while the poor have higher chances.
