The firstborn plague was a requirement in Egypt that every firstborn son and even livestock was to die from the passing of an angel of death. The occurrence was an inspiring display of God’s wrath on the ones who afflicted His people. According to the rabbinic practices, every firstborn was to die based on their hate towards the Israelites, that they even rejoiced after Pharaoh declared persecution. Since most Egyptians worshipped animals, God had to kill the animals as their gods.
