Policing Community: Effects of stress on the policing
The effects of stress on community policing often take time before its symptoms are seen and it tends to resemble the symptoms of the post traumatic stress disorder or the cumulative stress reaction. The signs of stress appear a day later even in officers who had not yet shown any sign of stress. Police officers who have been in service for six to ten years often show the highest mean stressor scores.
Police officers face various types of stressors in their daily jobs which include killing of some one while on duty or having their partners killed, lack of support from their leader or departments, dealing with negative situations constantly and finally the problem of having their family life and rituals disrupted.
