SQL Server Statements
SQL Server statements are sets of instructions consisting of identifies, variables, parameters, data types, names, and SQL reserved words that compile successfully when communicating with the database. There are five major categories of SQL Server statements, including Data Definition Language (DDL), Data Manipulation Language (DML), Data Control Language (DCL), Transaction Control Language (TCL), and Data Query Language (DQL). A commonly used statement is SELECT, which is a DQL that retrieves a row or rows from a database and facilitates the selection of the row or rows and columns from one or different tables in a SQL Server (Microsoft, 2021). This paper differentiates among different types of SQL Server statements such as SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE, and provides a scenario in which use of each would be appropriate.
