Defining Reconstruction
Reconstruction is the period that followed the Civil War and which entailed the rebuilding of the United States.
Q2. Why Lincoln chose Andrew Johnson as his VP
President Lincoln was determined to reunite the South with the North, and Andrew Johnson was the only Southern Senator who remained loyal to the Union during the Civil War. Therefore, Andrew Jonson was considered the most logical choice to help send a message of national unity and to gain Southern support.

According to the Black Codes, a freed slave had to provide evidence of employment to avoid returning to the plantation. Some states also required African Americans to pay a special tax if they were not servants or farmers.

Q5. The difference between a sharecropper, a carpetbagger and a scalawag
Sharecropping entailed allowing the poor to work the land in exchange for a share of the harvest. Carpetbagger is a term used to describe the Northerners who seized political offices in the South as a way to get rich quickly. Lastly, scalawags comprised the southerners who aligned themselves with carpetbaggers to take advantage of political openings. Therefore, the difference between the latter two and sharecroppers is that sharecroppers were primarily working class while carpetbaggers and scalawags comprised the political class.
