This assignment is designed to be fun. Find a clip of a Code Blue in a medical tv show or movie. Watch the clip at first, just to observe and enjoy it. Watch it a second time, and look for things you think are realistic and done well, or what you think is unrealistic. Write a narrative about what you see, and how you feel about it. Explain what seems realistic, and what doesn't. How would the unrealistic parts need be changed to be closer to real life? Code blue refers to a hospital emergency code used to describe critical status in patients (Jackson & Grugan, 2015). The film I chose was scripted and directed by seven students for their ER nursing program. The video excites several critical points about code blue and contains realistic and unrealistic perspectives. The realistic aspect in the video is how the nursing practitioners handle the patient. First, they lower the patient so that she lies flat on her back. Then, they start the CPR and position the bag mask well.
However, several aspects are unrealistic. First, the response rate is so low. Blue code is invoked during an emergency, meaning nursing practitioners need to act fast. In the video, the nurses work so slow. These nurses would be endangering the patient's life; hence they would need to act faster to improve the patient's chances of surviving.
