Cases of sexually transmitted diseases have been around for a long time, since the 15th Century. There are several types of STDs. However, syphilis is one of the most rampant and known cases observed in patients. The origin of this disease is not known, but there are different accounts. For example, some say the first known cases of syphilis were reported in 1495 when French troops were deployed in Italy. Ideally, others suggest that the first incidence was observed in a leper who contracted the disease from a Spanish prostitute. While the illness’s origin is not clear, the medicinal world managed to understand it better and came up with ways of detecting, controlling, and curing it as time progressed.
The research discovered that syphilis is a bacterial infection triggered by Treponema pallidum bacterium. The disease is spread through contact with infected individuals with sores.
