Negligence is conventionally defined as a failure to act in a way that is thought to be reasonable from a normal human being's perspective. In the nursing practice, a medical professional is there deemed to have become negligent when he or she fails to provide care to a patient as a reasonable person would. And as a result, the patient experiences further injury or harm. According to Fellerwendt, LLC (2019), an act of negligence is denoted by acknowledging that the duty of care was with the medical practitioner and that he or she breached that duty. As a result, the patient is injured and suffers some form of damages. A perfect example of negligence in nursing practice is when a nurse fails to sterilize a piece of equipment used on another patient causing the other patient to contract a severe illness.
