Introduction
In 2008, the Institute of Medicine and Robert Wood Johnson started inventiveness that would last for two years to answer the necessity to evaluate and change the nursing profession. The IOM named a commission on the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation launch on the Future of Nursing, at Institute of medicine, with the aim of coming up with an outline that would create a guidance for an action-oriented plan for the future of nursing. The work of the committee was to state clearly the role of nurses within the health sector and work on the shortage issues of the society to the nursing sector (Grossman & Valiga, 2016). The board also had an aim of generally expanding the nursing faculty. They also examined new possible ways of improving the nursing sector in general and attracting and retaining nurses who are highly trained in many care settings.
The Importance of Institute of Medicine Report
According to IOM report, nurses will be able to exercise to full stretch of their learning and instruction. The nurses will be able to train and learn up to higher education level with the presence of upgraded education system. From the report, nurses will be able to partner with all professionals in the health sector. Successful staff designing and developing policies needed a better way of collecting data and information foundation.
Role of State-Based Coalitions
The state-based coalition has made the achievement of removing scope of practice barriers. With this achievement of removing barriers, nurses have been able to practice their career to full extent without limitations. Nurses also can learn and train up to the limit they are able to reach.
Coalitions have helped in the transition to practice process whereby once somebody graduates, he or she acquires job immediately. This is achieved through the set guidelines and standards by the state. program tracking is also the contributor to faster transition to practice. Implementing nurse residency programs also help so much in the transition to work process (Pittman, Bass, Hargraves, Herrera & Thompson, 2015).
States like California have programs that train nurses to lead change and advance health. The state programs created coach the nurses and support them.
States coalitions have set goals to achieve in future as much as the education of nurses is concerned. The states aim at increasing the number of BSN prepared nurses by the year 2020.
