Impact of A Nurses-Led Telephone Intervention Program on The Quality of Life in Patients with Heart Failure
Heart failure is a chronic condition that presents health threats to humans of various ages. Effective management of the condition is essential towards achieving quality life for the affected patients. Since the illness requires daily attention and monitoring, unattended patients have shown a higher rate of readmission to hospital after discharge due to complications associated with the condition (Li, Zhang, & Xu, 2014). The inability of most patients to afford home nursing care and the unavailability of trained caregivers make the management of the disease difficult, an implication for the increased complications and associated deaths. The rising use of telephones in communications has provided a solution to the shortfall in the management of heart failures (Elsevier Inc, 2010). With the adoption of the technique, nurses can get in contact continuously with their patients, easing management of the prevailing conditions and in turn, enhancing the quality of lives for the heart patients.
The study by Stavrianopoulos (2016) is an analysis of the impact of employing telephone services by nurses towards providing intervention for heart failure conditions and improving the quality of life. The research is based on both male and female patients suffering from heart failure. After the patient was confirmed to suffer from HF, they were grouped into two groups, one being the control group and the other being the intervention group. Each patient from the groups completed a structured questionnaire at the end of the intervention, which lasted for 16 weeks, and done once a week; a call lasting for twenty minutes. The sample population comprised of 50 HF patients of both male and female genders selected randomly irrespective of demographic differences. However, the sample group was to be about 18 years and above and accessible by phone (Stavrianopoulos, 2016). The population size was arranged into two groups of 25 patients each. Data collection was done through a structured questionnaire that assessed the patient’s medical status before and after the telephone intervention. The result of the study was that there was a decrease in the number of hospital visits, and the time of hospitaliza...
