The article was chosen because it reveals the readiness for EHR adoption. Since the current study focuses on the utilization of evidence in nursing practice, the article relates because the application of EHR provides a method of gathering and utilizing evidence. Ethical clearance was obtained from the Institute Review Board of Basic and Applied Sciences of the University of Ghana; verbal consent was sought from participants.

The authors premise that electronic nursing documentation has challenged researchers to utilize nursing records in improving care and research efforts. It was chosen because it shows how evidence can improve the quality of care and advance research. Ethical consideration in the study included compliance with the World Medical Association Declaration of Helsinki’s one Ethical Principles for Medical Research Involving Human Subjects.

The authors premise that EHR is a potentially rich data source for clinical research. However, there is a lack of data abstraction tools to leverage these sources. The paper was chosen because it shows how EHRs can be used as sources of information (or evidence in the nursing practice).
