Deriving Organizational Culture from Organizational Theory
Different aspects of organizational theory, including organizational structure and strategy, contributes to the health care organization’s culture. Organizational structure and applied strategic efforts influence the values, beliefs, attitudes, norms, and assumptions of people in the organization. It must be noted that the designing and executing of the strategic plan varies significantly across different organizations and functional or business units. In this context, organizational structure, as an element of organizational theory, influences managers’ perspectives on the strategic thinking process and focus, and thus, the culture that is ultimately emphasized within the particular organization (Walston, 2018a). As a hospital administrator, I would leverage organizational culture and theory interplay to establish and formulate the most appropriate structure to enhance patients’ health outcomes. Research indicates that functional organization typically lacks the capacity to manage workflows across different departments and, thus, coordinate care processes in the patient care trajectory (Fiorio et al., 2018). Therefore, I would use this knowledge to redesign patient care processes by creating innovative structures to deliver hospital care tailored to each patient’s unique needs and expectations.
