1 What do you see as the most pressing emerging public health issues in this country?
Opioid overdosing is among the most pressing emerging public health issues in many countries, including the United States. Overdoses from prescription and illicit opioids have risen in recent years, causing significant harm to individuals, families, and communities. Addressing this issue requires a multi-pronged approach, including efforts to prevent opioid misuse, increase access to evidence-based treatment and recovery services, and improve public awareness and education. Addressing the root causes of opioid misuse, such as chronic pain and economic and social disparities, will be critical to effectively reducing opioid-related harm and promoting health equity within communities.
2 How do you anticipate your role as a public health nurse differing on local, state, and national levels?
As a public health nurse, my role would differ on local, state, and national levels regarding the scope of my work and the population I serve. At the local level, I would work closely with community members and organizations to identify and address public health needs and promote health equity within the community. This might involve conducting community health assessments, developing and implementing health promotion and disease prevention programs, and providing direct care to individuals and families.
At the state level, my work might focus on developing policies and programs to improve population health and reduce health disparities across multiple communities. This could involve collaborating with other healthcare providers, community leaders, and policymakers to identify and address systemic issues related to health equity, such as access to care and social determinants of health.
On the national level, my role might involve advocating for policies and programs that support public health and health equity at a broader scale, such as through participation in professional organizations or advocacy groups. Additionally, I might engage in research or policy development to inform national-level efforts to address emerging public health issues and promote health equity.
