According to the World Health Organization (WHO), health refers to the state of complete mental, social, and physical well-being but not the absence of infirmity or disease. Women play significant roles in society, so their health should be prioritized. However, the sad reality is that breast cancer is the second-largest cause of cancer death among Asian, black, American Indian, white, and Alaska Native females (Jackson, 2022). On that note, something should be done to reduce breast cancer infection rates and deaths among women. As a nurse practitioner, the most significant thing to do is to improve the health of females since they significantly facilitate the upbringing of multiple generations. The paper focuses on how the breast cancer infection rate can be decreased by updating mammography screening methods to improve women’s health in society.
Breast cancer is among the most common categories of cancer that affect many women in the United States of America (USA). In 2019, breast cancer death rates among females were 19.4 per 100,000 females (Healthy People 2030, 2022). In reality, losing such a significant number of women from breast cancer is humiliating, explaining why something should be done to reduce these deaths. Among other roles in society, females give birth and bring up children who constitute the next generations. They are the best teachers and caregivers, and their health should be emphasized, particularly when it comes to preventing deadly diseases, such as cancer. For instance, there should be public awareness campaigns to teach women what they can do to minimize the risks of getting breast cancer, such as breastfeeding their babies for around six months after birth.
Breast cancer accounts for about 30% of all other types of cancer in the USA. Over 2.3 million females in the USA were diagnosed with breast cancer between 2001 and 2016. In most cases, the breast cancer incidence increases at the age of 25 years and peaks from 70 to 74 years. About 1 in every 8 females get invasive breast cancer (Khan & Chollet, 2021). In 2021, the women’s mortality rate in the USA was 20 per 100,000 females. African American females have the highest breast cancer-related deaths, while white women get the highest diagnosis in the USA. In addition, breast cancer is the second-largest cause of death among Hispanic women. As such, the disease affects females from all realms of life.
