Why is organizational behavior important to you as a health care leader? The U.S. health care system employs over 18 million individuals of various departments and sectors (Brokowski, 2016). Each department and sector has a diverse structure, which makes it vital that health care leaders possess the skills to communicate effectively with, motivate, and lead diverse groups of people within a large, dynamic, and complex industry (Brokowski, 2016).

Businesses can benefit from organizational theory by effectively understanding individual behavior and processes. One of the essential objectives of an organization is evaluating mechanisms for motivating workers to enhance overall organizational success. Due to the service intensity offered in the healthcare sector, it is fundamental to fathom people's behaviors. The application of organizational behavior in healthcare is a key issue this paper will examine. The paper will also dissect various studies conducted to effectively individuals' behavior in different situations, including the Hawthorne Studies, McGregor's Theories X and Y, and Lewin's Behavioral Study, and their application in health care.
Borkowski (2016) defined organizational behavior as the study of individuals, their behavior in an organizational or group setting, and how they interrelate. Organizational behavior investigates an individual's action, the reason behind it, strategies they could use to advance, and what influences their performance (Borkowski, 2016). In healthcare settings, organizational behavior management focuses on enhancing what people do to boost healthcare (Emma, 2019). Cunningham & Geller (2008) noted that behavior is affected by the system where it happens, although it could be treated as a specific reason behind numerous health mistakes. Some adjustments in behavior can avoid medical mistakes.
For years, medical errors have continued to be a critical drawback in the health sector; thus, organizational behavior tends to rationalize behavior necessary to foster work output, diminish medical mistakes, and surge productivity. For instance, providing rewards, promotions, or better salaries and wages can be effective tools to get workers to embrace initiatives leading to efficient work output and decreasing errors. This process, in return, contributes to research to learn strategies and measures to enhance workers' performance.
Hawthorne's studies included various experiments, revealing the human-being factors in production essential to organizational behavior development. These studies comprised four stages: illumination experiments, interview program, bank-wiring observation-room group studies, and relay-assembly group experiments. These studies aimed to evaluate whether the conditions workers endured impacted the productivity of work (Borkowski, 2016). Firstly, the illumination experiment was the initial research stage to evaluate whether modified illumination impacted productivity. Unfortunately, the result concluded that lighting had zero impact on productivity. The relay-assembly group study comprised working hours and conditions changes to check whether it led to enhanced productivity. The interviewing program involved interviews of employees' life events and attitudes. The bank-wiring observation involved segregating employees into diverse groups to examine social aspects of productivity. These stages revealed the benefits of the way the impact of human factors is effective in productivity and business victory.
