Fatigue, chest pressure, chest discomfort, and pain, or breath shortness are common among patients with acute coronary heart disease (CHD) or a sudden blockage in coronary arteries. These syndromes present in both unstable angina pectoris and acute myocardial infarction (MI) and are often difficult to tell the differences (Dudas et al., 2012). However, angina and myocardial infarction differ in the pathogenesis, the way they present, and treatment or management.
The term “angina” is used to refer to the chest pain experienced by the CHD patients due to the narrowing of the arteries. The narrowed arteries fail to supply the heart with nutrients and oxygen and a reduced amount of blood flows to the heart. This leads to a build-up of plaque or atherosclerosis. Symptoms are not experienced at rest, but when patients become active, which make the heart to overwork.
