Finding a nurse leader may take time. The instructor will tell you about this assignment at the beginning of the term and in week 5. Start early to set up the interview.
The introduction should include:
When was the activity completed?
Name of the person interviewed? Job title and job description based upon interview questions.
What was the reason for selecting this nurse leader for the interview?
What were the objectives of the interview? (you should write objectives if you are interviewing a leader and share them at the beginning of the interview)
These are questions to ask: You may include additional questions.

Interviewing a Nurse Leader
The interview took place on August 24th, 2021, from 0900 hrs at Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC). It was an interview with Holly Muller, the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) at the health facility. His job description at ORMC includes leadership for the hospital’s strategic direction, vision, and nursing care. As the CNO, Muller leads a philosophy of excellence and partnership of clinical care, nursing research of ORMC’s system-wide quality standards and nursing practices, and education. I selected Muller for the interview because of his extensive experience in dealing with patients and having a broad grasp of operational and clinical know-how within the acute care field. In addition, he has thirty years of progressive nursing leadership practice and a demonstrated track record of leading complex projects and facilities.
Objectives of the interview:
* To find out his leadership style influence on the hospital’s working environment.
* To understand how he empowers and mentors nursing staff.
* To find out how he influences ORMC’s culture as a leader.
* To comprehend how he handles staff morale, recruitment, and retention.
The Interview:
Me (Frank Ken): Good morning Mr. Muller? And I am glad that you have granted me the opportunity to interview you around numerous areas within your role as the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) at Orlando Regional Medical Center. So, perhaps, I would allow you to introduce yourself first before we begin.
Muller: Thank you, Ken, and you are pretty much welcome! You have correctly captured it; I am Holly Muller, the Chief Nursing Officer at Orlando Regional Medical Center with extensive career experience spanning over thirty years within the facility. As a CNO, I partake in the hospital’s realization of its vision and mission in regard to becoming an internationally recognized nursing facility.
Me: Well stated, sir, now, to begin, as many professionals in the field would like to know, what is your leadership style?
Muller: I would say I have a blend of transformational and democratic leadership styles. I believe in motivating my staff and challenging them to take ownership of their responsibilities and surpass expectations. As a result, my employees are allowed to think by themselves instead of permanently being assigned tasks from the top so that they may become more productive. And as a democratic leader, I encourage and welcome participation from my staff when making decisions. They always have to be part of the solution to any problem; thus, we can achieve maximum output from them.
Me: And what would you consider as your leadership strengths and weaknesses?
Muller: Quite a challenging question there, Ken. First, my strengths include having a strong passion for my role, always exhibiting conscious concern for patients, and I enjoy executing strategies to address existing and emerging problems. Now, about my weaknesses, I would say I am an individual who pays keen attention to detail, hence in some cases, I may find myself overly solving one particular issue and neglecting the other. Most often, because of my workaholic nature, I usually...
