The American Cancer Society (ACS) can provide support and education to a colleague or a family friend who has just been diagnosed with cancer. The ACS can help the patient understand his or her diagnosis, find and pay for treatment, and be aware of the treatment side effects. There are also online communities recommended by ACS that the patient can find resourceful. In addition, the organization can help the patient find services and programs in his or her specific locality. The services offered by ACS that I would recommend for the patient are Patient Logging Program and Road to Recovery (ACS, n.d.). The former will help the patient receive the best care in the case he or she will have to travel far away from home. The latter would provide rides for the patient so that he or she can get to the treatment centers.
