Scenario: Five nine-year-old boys in your group have formed a clique. They spend time together at activities, refusing to let other children join them. One child seems to be the leader, and he determines what activities they engage in. In the outdoors during recess, the clique of children are often off by themselves playing some kind of game. Other children who want to join the clique to play with them have expressed unhappiness at being excluded.
Question #1: Do you think something should be done to change their behavior? Why/Why not? If so, explain your answer.
Question #2: As the teacher of all the children, what might you say to the other children that will help them to deal with their feelings about being excluded?
