I watched KJ's video on the various dialects and ASL signs to be quite intriguing. I analyzed deaf people born in the 1960s who still use SEE today. The ASL dialect is still evolving from its previous state. I met deaf folks from all around the country. My acquaintance, for example, resides in Ohio and still uses PSE. Another New Mexican buddy signs SEE, and I now know where it came from. However, because there are no deaf schools in small towns, some people are unaware of the deaf culture and community. My pals are often inquiring about the meaning of my signature, 'ASL.' I study deaf persons who use signs in the United States, and one of the characteristics that distinguish West and East Coast signers is speed. People in the West, for example, are more laid-back and sign slower than those in the East.
On the other hand, people tend to have various accents depending on where they are from. It was also the same country where people's accents varied depending on where they lived. In the future, I want to be a teacher and provide the required assistance to deaf children in various states across the United States.
When I was in undergraduate school, I took a Linguistic class and learned about Pro-1, Pro-2, and Pro-3. I also watched KJ's video on pronouns and read "Grammar, Gesture, and Meaning in American Sign Language." I couldn't figure out how to utilize pronouns. PRO stood for I/ME, PRO -2 for YOU, and PRO-3 for SHE/HER/ HE/HIM/IT/THEY/THEM, which I find confusing. In my opinion, I like to use INDEX as IX- YOU, IX- loc PARK, IX- SHE, which is more accessible than PRO.
