There are many studies and publications in aviation, which provide varied statistics on commercial aviation accidents. As such, there has been an inconsistency in the same. Such has also made people question the reliability and validity of such statistics. Because of such issues, when analyzing and comparing accidents in aviation, there is a need to evaluate the approach used in a given study, or publication in collecting the data for analysis (Broach, 2004). Apparently, there are many data collection methods, some of which are reliable others are unreliable. Another crucial factor is to consider the source of the statistics. People have different motivations when providing aviation accident statistics.
