In covering children's stories, it is essential to prioritize their welfare over the other stakes. To do this, the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund Europe and Central Asia (n.d.) explained the appropriate objectives of the media personnel while reporting on these children. First, the dignity and rights of the children should be prioritized. Second, the privacy and confidentiality of the children should be explained to them and their guardians and closest of kin to protect them from prejudice and violence. Blurring their pictures and videos and using aliases must also be practiced, especially in sensitive situations. Third, children's rights and advocacies should be prioritized over other essential matters. Fourth, the children's level of maturity should be appropriately assessed and considered when listening to their stories. Furthermore, their opinions should matter as much as the adults and authorities. Fifth, the child's socio-political and cultural aspects should be considered before the report. Lastly, information about the children and their families that may place them at risk or violate their rights as a human and citizen should be carefully considered before being published or shown on live screens.
4 Hostage Situation

5 Interviewing

In interviewing any concerned individual, one must follow these steps: First, identify oneself, including one's credibility, while building rapport. Second, the objectives of the interview, including where it will be used or published, should be noted. The consent shall also be taken before the start of the interview. Third, ensure that the interviewee understands the consequences of the interview and that anything said during this time may or may not have an impact on one's daily life if it were to be published. Fourth, the interviewee shall be given time to think about the answers, allowance for mistakes, the right to rephrase the answer, and the right not to answer pressing questions. Fifth, the interviewer shall refrain from moralizing or demoralizing the interviewee at any interview point. Sixth, the interviewer shall abide by the demand of attribution or non-attribution (Columbia University, n.d.).
