In this case, some traditional rights have been employed. However, one common question individuals have been asking is the ethical importance of recognizing these rights. One of the reasons why maintaining these traditional rights is important is that they have helped maintain moderate livelihood fisheries, which help the individuals to continue engaging in traditional practices that help boost their economic opportunities. This process would help the individuals from the financial problems they have been suffering while protecting the environment. The individuals in this area would, therefore, continue earning without risking harming the environment, which could negatively affect their fishing in the future. Similarly, maintaining these traditional rights would help create mutual respect and cooperation treaties. There have been various infringements that different people have made in regards to fishing. One of the rights that have been infringed is regarding the individuals exceeding the maximum amount of fishing they are supposed to fish. For example, despite applying the quotas, which have the maximum amount the person is supposed to harvest, some people still exceed them. These limitations resulted from different species, which usually vary according to time and the location where the person can fish. Some of the measures employed to control these infringements are using different punishments. Some of the punishments include the individual suffering from monetary fines. In other instances, the individual has suffered seizure of related goods, products, and equipment. This region has a series of natural resources that have been one of the main sources of economic benefit. The main natural resource of this region is fishing. For example, the indigenous communities have been harvesting fish and seafood for a long period. Moreover, other nonindigenous groups have been engaged in fishing. This fishing has been one of the main sources of the country's income. For example, 2019, the commercial landings were approximately $120 million. Since most indigenous communities do not have another source of income, they have been depending on fishing as their only source of income. Furthermore, it has also attracted other nonindigenous companies to invest in it. Since this area is attractive, measures have been employed to improve the land in this region.
Even though these commercial operations have outstanding benefits in the country, they also have some ethical challenges that should be addressed.
