Ethical Dilemma
An ethical dilemma occurs in a situation where individuals are expected to make difficult choices. The situation gets more complicated because none of the choices offer a definitive solution to the situation.

In this case, the ethical dilemma is whether to forego integrity for selfish gains. Mark, an employee of the Big National Bank, has to choose whether to work within the dictates of integrity or not. He understands that his dreams of getting the promotion he has been angling for would be significantly bolstered if he manages to successfully navigate the business transaction with the Hydrangea group. He has built a solid track record of getting things, and his immediate boss is banking on this reputation to see the business through (Benjamin and Skinner 1). However, the process requires him to involve compliance, which is proving to be a huge stumbling block, given the prevailing time constraints. The moral question is, should he just tarnish his reputation of being a conscientious employee by upholding integrity, or should he use underhand means to get the required documentation?
Normative Approaches to the Dilemma
The first normative approach that can be used to tackle the ethical dilemma entailed in the get-it-done case is the utilitarian approach. The approach holds that moral actions are the ones that involve more good than evil (Velasquez et al., par. 5). As such, it identifies all the optional courses of action available and proposes the one with the greatest benefits.
The other normative approach that can possibly apply to the case is the virtue approach, which makes the presumption that there are particular ideals we should strive to attain. The virtues play a central role in the development of our humanity and define the kind of people we can potentially become (Velasquez et al., par. 21). Concerning this, the pertinent moral question that pops up is whether Mark should sacrifice integrity for selfish interests.
