Application of Sociological Theories to Solve Conflict for Workers
Introduction
Tesla Inc.
Tesla motor Inc. was founded in 2003 by a group of Silicon Valley engineers. The brilliant and innovative team of engineers proved to the world that electric vehicles could substitute gasoline-powered vehicles excellently. Tesla is located in Fremont, California, with other operating factories in countries like China, Germany, Netherlands, and New York (Liu et al., 2014). Liu et al. (2014) argue that the company has distinct ownership of subsidiaries in Europe, North America, and Asia. The corporation designs, produces, and markets electric cars to vast countries across the globe (Liu et al., 2014). Tesla facilitates advanced electric vehicle power train units to other automated companies like Toyota. It manages more than two thousand employees, and at least thirty one stores worldwide (Liu et al., 2014). Considering the vast number of employees, I have chosen this company because managing the number and their tasks could yield significant challenges. Also, looking into the service locations proves that the company has much to do ensuring efficient completion of duties towards the achievement of objectives, mission, and maintenance of its vision. Tesla has to ensure efficacy in the recruitment and management of employees ethically to enhance the realization of its desires of offering high-performance vehicles electrically and at an affordable price to all consumers.
Conflict
According to a report by Wong (2018) to the Guardian daily newspaper, the employees at Tesla experience various struggles at work. Wong (2018) reports information yielded by some employees, revealing the ignorance of their boss Elon Musk (Chief Executive of Tesla) in the accomplishment of his promise in enhancing their safety while at work. On the other hand, they claim Musk does not fulfil his promise of standing in the gap for injured employees to foresee issues like ensuring their welfare. “Musk, an accountability Houdini, had turned the fact that some of his employees were dealing with life-changing injuries into the glowing press about his leadership. If only his promises were true” (Wong, 2018). Most of the employees feel that the CEO is not fulfilling the arguments made during recruitment despite the challenges they face after incurring an accident at work.
The issues resulted in unrest among the employees, and they thought speaking out may help. For example, the six workers speaking to the Guardian newspaper argue that Musk did not meet with them after they got injured at work (Wong, 2018). They believe he should have at least made an effort to reach them. On the other hand, the report shows that it may be had for Musk to meet all injured employees. If he does, he might get engaged with the task for the better time of his year. However, Musk declared in a note that no words would express how much he cares for the safety and well-being of his employees (Wong, 2018). This issue has raised a conflict in the corporation that requires immediate attention for a solution to enhance peace between Tesla and its employees.
