Sociology of Deviance
The social typing process involves a description in which an individual gets a label based on their presumed behavioral characteristics. It is also a situation where the judgment evaluation is in consideration of the previous description given. For a deviant individual, the judgment is usually negative. Based on the description and the ensuing judgment, it reaches a point where social control of the individual is exercised, in what is called prescription. At this point, a person is treated in a specific way that would not have emerged if the previous labels were not applied. The initial description creates deviance when it describes the negative characteristics or behaviors of the person.
