The OSI model is an important component of computer network design. It is used to indicate how different protocols and equipment inter operate and communicate with technology. Modern technology is supposed to conform to the standards of the OSI model. The OSI determines how different applications communicate over a certain network. The OSI model was designed to ensure that equipment from different brands is compatible. As a result, OSI Layer 2 and OSI Layer 3 products can be integrated into a single network design regardless of their manufactures by using the OSI model. Furthermore, since the OSI model creates an extensible network design, network services and protocols can be easily added to the existing layered architecture, thus altering its design (McCauley et al., 2019).
Further, the OSI model splits network communications into lesser logical pieces. This impacts networking by streamlining how network protocols are developed. The upper layers of the OSI model format data and manage different connections. These layers also display information from the users. The SSL and NFS are examples of upper technologies (McCauley et al., 2019). Consequently, the lower layers are used to route and control the flow of data. The TCP and IP are examples of lower technologies. The OSI model can assist computer programmers and manager handle organizational problems.
