Ms. G is an identified diabetic who presented her case with the symptoms of fever, pain and distension in the left lower leg- accompanied by the inability to bear her weight on that leg. Her situation warrants the prognosis that she is under the condition of an infected (which is a yellow) wound. It should not be handled by simple applying of heating pads to the leg, as this does not reduce the effect of infection, but it may offer ways of infection.
This is most probably a venous ulcer because it is situated centrally above her ankle and happens to be superficial with an irregular shape and as per her description- is extremely painful. It is obviously infected, and the pain is complemented by the edematous swelling (Maiese, Morhan & Chong, 2007). These ulcers occur because the movement within vessels is compromised, and this is common in diabetics. The WBC count is increased, indicating a pronounced leukocytosis that would be seen in acute inflammation.
