Introduction
The Sanchez extended family is currently composed of ten members. All are facing different issues. After assessing the issues each family member faces, a question arises on the early development of the Sanchez children. The conditions in the household have posed serious issues to Celia and Hector Sanchez, parents in this large family. The assignment will focus on Celia and Emilia Sanchez. Celia Sanchez, a mother, wife, grandmother, sister, and aunt, is deeply worried about the financial instability in her home, considering that there is an extra mouth to feed and Hector, the breadwinner, is unable to fully cater to the family’s needs due to his health condition and age. Celia can also not proficiently speak and communicate in English, which worries her.
Additionally, Celia is disturbed by the tense situation between her and Hector, her husband, concerning the presence of Roberto, her nephew, in their home. Emilia is the eldest daughter of Celia and Hector. She has a history of substance use disorder (SUD) and has not been able to complete addiction treatment. Further, her addiction has made her unable to work consistently, and she did not finish high school. Due to her drug addiction, Emilia stands a risk of being denied US citizenship or being deported. Additionally, Emilia has limited support from her family following her decision to perform an abortion.
Theoretical Perspectives
Celia is in distress due to the fear that her family might lack food due to Hector’s health conditions and the fact that he is aging. Celia should also seek to enroll in an English class where she will learn English as a second language. The existential theory states that humans are endowed with free will and choice, where they can create meaning and purpose in their lives (Chigangaidze, 2021). In this regard, Celia should be supported to understand that she has what it takes to stabilize her family’s economic situation and take English classes. One of the key ideas of existential theory is that human beings exist before they find their meaning and purpose (Chigangaidze, 2021). The process of learning and exposure to the world helps one to find meaning and live by it. Another key idea is that human beings have the freedom to make their own choices (Chigangaidze, 2021). Therefore, Celia should know that she has the freedom to create goals and...
