Unit II Case Study
Emergency Management ,Civil Defense, and Your Community
In a two-page paper, discuss possible targets for domestic terrorism in your community. These can be structures, facilities, or events that take place in the community. Apply concepts covered in our textbook. Your final paper (due in Unit VII) will build on the information you prepare for this assignment. Explain how non-weapons technology could be used for destructive means in your community. Discuss the philosophical differences between religious, nationalist, and left/right wing terrorist organizations in your community. Please do not say there is no potential threat in your community because you live in a small or rural community. Remember, no one thinks something will happen in their community until it actually does. It can happen anywhere, so think carefully about the potential targets in your community.
Be sure to summarize, paraphrase, and cite the information. Do not copy directly from the textbook or from any other MHS 520, Weapons of Mass Destruction 2 source, including your community website. Sites such as Wikipedia, ehow.com, history.com, howstuffworks.com, and other similar sources are not scholarly in nature and may NOT be used for this assignment. Your paper needs to be at least two full pages in length not counting the title and reference pages. You must include at least two sources in your assignment (one can be the course textbook). The paper must follow APA Style in format, include a title/cover page, in-text citations, and a properly formatted reference page. You do not need to include an abstract for this
assignment. Should you choose to include one, the abstract does not count toward the two-page minimum length requirement. If you are unsure about APA requirements, please be sure to review the formatting information provided for you in the classroom, student portal, and Writing Center.

Possible targets for domestic terrorism in Kansas City
One of the primary target locations for domestic terrorism attacks is the Port of Kansas City. As among the most extensive rail hub and third-largest hubs for trucks in the United States, the Kansas port is a beehive of activity, thereby making it an ideal location, which is easily accessible. The numerous cargo containers offer adequate space and hiding spots, hence, ideal for a domestic terrorist looking to kill a significant number of people and paralyze marine time commerce in this city (Oliver, Marion & Hill, 2015). Walmart stores are another possible target for domestic terrorism through mass shootings. The stores have hundreds of employees and attract hundreds of customers from diverse ethnic and religious groups due to their low prices and a wide array of products. They are also prominent; thus, they can be seen from miles away and accessed with ease. Another target is the Kansas City Pride festival (KC Pride), held annually in August. Being the top ten LQBTQ festivals in the country, it attracts thousands of LGBTQ members from the city and other states to celebrate inclusion, diversity and pride with music and performance. The ease in access to such an event, coupled with the presence of large groups of people as targets and human shields, makes it ideal for a hate crime driven mass shooting (Oliver et al., 2015).
How non-weapons technology could be used for destructive means in Kansas City
The railway is one of the essential modes of transportation in Kansas City for passengers and cargo. While it eases the transportation process, the high number of passengers and the numerous goods transported, such as industrial chemicals, can be used to commit domestic terrorism. Attacks on the trains or the purposeful attacks on industrial chemicals being ferried can lead to deaths and devastation (Jenkins & Butterworth, 2018, pp. 6-8).
Computers can be utilized to carry out cyber terrorism. The deliberate exploitation of computer networks by criminals is achieved by hacking and introducing malware to...
