This week’s readings indicated that there are differences in internet utilization among different demographics. For instance, Kumar et al. (2019) indicate that younger people are significantly linked to higher internet utilization using their smartphones while Hargittai et al. (2019) indicate that internet utilization among older adults is lower. In addition, the readings reveal that people from poor economic backgrounds lack digital skills compared to those from privileged backgrounds. Also, White people are utilizing the internet more than Hispanics and blacks, although this gap is gradually closing (Brown et al., 2016). This information can be useful in designing effective online campaigns by enhancing segmentation. One can create targeted marketing campaigns by focusing on segments that have high internet utilization. For instance, online campaigns can be targeted toward young people because as Kumar et al. (2019) indicate, they have high internet utilization.
