Dawn is facing a situation wherein she is placed between two people from different generations and that has different work ethics. John is an old man who has been very loyal to the company and dedicated most of his years working there. Terry on the other hand, is a young professional who has new techniques in organizing her work. They both have different techniques on how they get their work done, but it is very evident that their work ethics are opposing.
The generation where John was born is called Baby Boomers and are also referred as the “Me generation. They are born between 1946 to 964 and most of them hold higher positions because of the length of service that they provided the company. Boomers are aspiring, faithful, work-driven, and skeptical. They lean toward money related rewards, yet in addition appreciate nonmonetary rewards like adaptable retirement arrangement and acknowledgment from their peers. They also do not demand continual feedback from others (Rampton, 2017).
Terry is a much younger professional who seemed to be efficient and timely on doing her tasks. Her work ethic is very common among the younger generations. People born from 1965 to 1979 are what we call the Generation X or popularly knows as the Millennials. Older generation consider Millennials as lazy and picky, but the truth is that they are efficient workers who are driven by deadlines. Millennial employees are realistic and does not settle for a company who gives them less, so they have a tendency to transfer from one company to another. Unlike the older generation who are willing to work from sun up to sun down all days of the week, Millennials believe that they deserve the weekends off to do stuff they want to do and sometimes, to just simply relax (Marston, 2019)
