MGT599 MOD3 Case Assignment: Coca Cola Strategic Choices

Case Study Instructions:

Module 3 - Case
Strategic Choices
Assignment Overview
The Case in this course is an ongoing exercise, meaning that we will continue to review one company over the course of our four modules. In Module 3, we will be conducting a strategic analysis of the Coca-Cola Company.
Specifically, the Module 3 Case requires that identify the primary business strategy employed by the Coca-Cola Company. You will also be providing a critical, written analysis evaluating that strategy in the context of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats you identified in Module 2.
Required Reading
Refer to the required and optional readings related to strategic choices, the theme of Module 3.
Case Assignment
In a 6- to 8-page paper, respond to the following:
1. Which of the four generic (Porter) strategies does the Coca-Cola Company follow, and how do you know?
2. Integrate the strategy you've identified above with the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats you identified in Module 2 (this exercise should provide you with some specific actions the company should be taking relative to its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. These actions are referred to as "strategic choices"). Do the Coca-Cola Company's strategic choices align with the firm's generic strategy? If not, what are the specific points of disconnect? Think critically about this step, as no company achieves perfect alignment of its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats with its chosen strategy. As the MBA, it is your job to uncover the discrepancies and problems.
3. How can the Coca-Cola Company leverage its strengths and shore up its weaknesses by altering its strategic choices? How can the company take advantage of environmental opportunities and minimize environmental threats by altering its strategic choices? Be specific.
4. Complete the paper by commenting on how your view of the Coca-Cola Company’s vision and mission has changed or has been reconfirmed by this process of strategic analysis. Would you make any suggestions to revise the company's vision, mission, or values statements, or to any of its goals/objectives?
5. Consider the Case as a formal business report that you are developing for the Board of Directors and CEO as the Coca-Cola Company’s consultant. This is a professional document. Follow the format below:
o Executive summary: This is a synopsis of the main points, conclusions, and recommendations made in the longer report. If you would like a refresher on writing an executive summary, check this website: http://www(dot)csun(dot)edu/~vcecn006/summary.html
o Introduction: State the main purpose of the paper (thesis statement), what you hope to accomplish, and how you will go about doing it.
o Main Body: The "meat" of the paper. Emphasize analysis, not just description. Delineate separate topics or sections with headings.
o Conclusion: Summarize your paper in light of your thesis statement.
Assignment Expectations
Your paper will be evaluated using the grading rubric.

Executive Summary
The Coca-Cola Company remains one of the successful organizations that have differentiated its products in the market from those of its rivals, an aspect that has seen the organization stress the unique and imitable taste of its products. The company’s strategy has brought it a remarkable success and currently, Coca-Cola is considered as one of the beverage market leaders in the industry. However, in achieving this goal, the organization incorporated a series of strategies such as low cost production strategies that were effective in the hard economic times that were weathered by economic recession, thus the organization was in a position to make its products available to its consumers globally.
Introduction
The Coca-Cola Company is currently considered as the world leader in the beverage industry. In this regard, the company holds a stronger position within the market, an aspect that is attributed to its extensive experience in differentiating its unique products taste as compared to those of their competitors (Scilly, 2015, pp.12). On the other hand, Coca-Cola ensured that its products were protected from being assimilated by its rivals, thus keeping its recipes of drinks a secret and putting more efforts in improving the quality and taste of its privileges, an aspect that has seen the organization to adapt to some of the changing needs and preferences of its consumers.
The inclusion of this strategy in realizing its effectiveness needs improvement since the organization is focused on improving its performance in consideration of the competitive struggles as detailed in organization’s global terms. Iansiti & Levien (2004) clearly denote the organizations need to decisively invest in its R&D efforts and reduce the costs of its products as an efficient strategy aimed at improving the organization’s position of different markets of the third-world countries (pp.23)
The primary purpose of this paper is to provide Coca-Cola’s SWOT analysis through the use of the Five Forces as detailed in Porter’s Model. On the other hand, the paper will determine the organizations missed opportunities as detailed above and detail some of the unaddressed weaknesses of the potential impact of its diversification strategy. In addition to this, the paper will consider the need to update the organization’s mission statement and establish the manner in which its vision statement has stood the test of time including some of the areas Coca-Cola needs to direct its focus in order to remain profitable and achieve its competitive advantage.
Coca-Cola’s Four Generic (Porter) Strategies
Coca-Cola is considered as a dominant force within the industry and is in the business of maintaining its market share. However, it is essential to note that this organization’s jeopardy in losing its market share to its competitors such as Pepsi remains one of the challenging factors for the organization. Iansiti & Levien (2004) allege that currently,...
