International Expansion Case
Colossal Corporation maintains a subsidiary in Serafini, a small country in Eastern Europe. This subsidiary is incorporated in the state of Delaware as New Brand Design, Inc. (NBD), a company that designs, brands, and manufactures innovative electronic products and markets and distributes them for resale across the globe. NBD has been admitted to conduct business in Serafini.
NBD recently expanded its operations beyond Serafini and into Western Asia. It has attained all government permits and successfully opened a new facility in Asia. The CEO of Colossal Corporation, Janet Yoon, is worried about certain reports concerning NBD’s expansion into Asia. The CEO has submitted the following issues to the international task force and requires solutions immediately:
The local employees in Asia seem to spend considerable time chatting with each other instead of getting right to work in the morning. Not only that, but when meetings are scheduled it seems that everyone is late, sometimes significantly late.
In filling a recent vacancy in the new Asian facility, the local who headed the hiring committee insisted on hiring his uncle. The uncle appears to be qualified, but the CEO is worried about nepotism and whether that creates ethical issues for the company.
The various suppliers in Asia with whom NBD has supply contracts for the components that NBD uses in its manufacturing do not always honor the specific terms of the contracts that NBD has entered into with them. Particularly where market prices have shifted significantly, they insist that the contracts represent a partnership and that each partner should help protect the other from losing money on the deal. They say that the relationship is more important than the contract terms.
Four weeks ago, NBD’s Asian facility introduced an employee incentive plan with annual awards for outstanding individual performance by employees. Employees were encouraged to nominate a deserving colleague, or they could nominate themselves. So far there have been no nominations. The CEO, Janet Yoon, wants to know what’s wrong and whether the incentive plan should be scrapped.
Yoon would like the international task force to research and provide an analysis of the issues and recommendations on how to approach them.

International Expansion Report
The unauthorized expansion of New Brand Design, Inc. to western Asia did not yield the anticipated benefits to the organization, the employees, and the community at large. The development resulted in the origin of various negative issues such as negligence of workers and the rise of nepotism at the workplace. Although expansion should lead to other events like the yielding of more benefits in an organization, NBD has deviated, and it could quickly realize losses if the issues remain at stake. The organization expanded beyond Serafini into Western Asia, an action that did not exist in the admission of their venture (Kamal, 2017). Although the organization has achieved all government permits in operation, it does not account for the initial agreement before the expansion process.
Although the company could have expanded to Western Asia hoping to improve in the attainment of more sales, it has and might not achieve the anticipated goals. The negative issue underlying the plan hinders the company from achieving its mission in action. The management in the company should know and understand that government acceptance is not the ultimate step and idea towards success. Although NBD might face significant challenges in the attempt to stop its operations in Asia, it should look into and acquire other options in dealing with the issues affecting the efficient running of activities in the company.
The negligence of employees in the company requires immediate action. According to the filed complaints, most workers in the organization neither follow nor observe the desired code ethics at the workplace. How can employees spend most of their working hours chatting on their phones? What happened to ethics? Do the workers know the impact of the action on their jobs? Also, most of the workers arrive late for an official meeting, while some do not even avail themselves. The organization has the responsibility of controlling workers to enhance and ensure its continuity in business operation.
Although the employees have rights and responsibilities under any contract of work, they should observe most of the fundamental ethical value at work. For instance, they should implement principles like trustworthiness, fairness, integrity, responsibility, civic virtue, and honesty (Mintz, 2011). These elements encourage and empower the workers to work even without supervision, resulting in the completion of the assigned task and reaching the desired targets in their fields of operation. On the other hand, they will achieve accountability in working to boost the organization into making its vision and mission (Mintz, 2011). The company should empower all employees to observe ethics and also institute strict rules and regulations to ensure adherence to all job specifications. For instance, the workers could be deprived of the freedom to use their phones during working hours if they cannot balance their work and communication processes. NBD should strictly implement operations under the code of ethics to ensure compliance and performance of employees.
The action of hiring a relative by the leader in the new branch operating in Asia reveals controvers...
