The black race has been on the receiving end of many systemic injustices for centuries and even in contemporary society. People living with disabilities are among the special groups that must be given the attention they deserve to create a fair ground for all citizens. Schalk captures the challenges that individuals living with disabilities from the Black community face. In his book, Schalk analyses the roots of Black disability politics, its differences from the frameworks applicable to their white counterparts, and the wrong perception of Black disability. Thematic Analysis One of the central themes in Schalk's Black Disability Politics is the divergence of Black disability politics from mainstream white disability frameworks. Individuals with disabilities need legal protection, accessibility to essential services, and individual accommodation (Lindsay 2). However, racial and systemic inequalities are evident even among special groups. Black disability politics recognizes that race and disability cannot be separated from each other. Gender, class, and sexuality should be prioritized when enrolling in programs for disabled people (Schalk 86). This thematic concern calls for reevaluating disability rights advocacy to ensure it is inclusive and representative of the diverse experiences within the disabled community.
