It is hard to determine who you want to become when you are a little child. On a visit to a doctor’s office, it is often about becoming a doctor and serving in the medical field through different projects. Then, it was becoming a pilot and flying airplanes to touch the sky.

Apart from these two obvious fantasies that played hard to get with little elementary schools, there was something that could become and it was just as exciting – I want to be an engineer!

But why engineering?

An engineer is someone who utilizes the knowledge of science and technology to make products that can make work easier. There is also a lot of consolation in thinking that it is engineers who create airplanes and most of the apparatus used by doctors.

In this article, we will go through different sample essays that will help aspiring writers and college students illuminate their intentions and why they would want to pursue the field of engineering.

Why Do You Want To Be An Engineer

Opening Remarks

From the moment we become aware of what we could be, we desperately want to become that, no matter the cost. This becomes the aim or ambition in life that we want to pursue no matter the cost. The higher we aim, the more excited and motivated we become to make it a reality. Soon, that aim or ambition pulsates through our bodies and there is no way around it.

Engineering – Passion of a Lifetime

Every time I close my eyes and see myself in the future, bigger, older, saner, I always imagine myself to be an engineer – A mechanical Engineer precisely.

Mechanical Engineering became the passion of my life when I was in elementary school. Our teacher showed us a chart with different professions. A doctor was treating a patient; a teacher teaching a class; a farmer running a tractor over the fields. There, I saw an engineer tweaking a machine.

Later in school and on my way home, I was looking at things from a vision of an engineer. I told my parents what I saw that day in school and who I want to become as I grow and they could not be happier.

Reasons for Choosing Engineering

Good or bad, there are always reasons behind choosing a passion or profession for life. It is hard to pursue a thing for that long and dedication if one is not motivated from within. When it becomes a part of the mind and the body, it naturally goes in as knowledge and experience and comes out as vision and wisdom.

I admit my first exposure to engineering and becoming an engineer was a tad emotional, but I quickly found my reasons and they helped me anchor that idea.

No Boring Day At Work

One of the best things about being an engineer that attracted me to the profession is the exposure to sheer creativity. As an engineer, I will always be on my drawing board or computer designing innovation and sketching out new and exciting things or I would be out there in the field working on that design to make it a reality.

With new things to create each day, I would not have to be worried about being bored at work or hating my job. This is the driving force behind my choosing engineering as a profession.

Challenges

The next dimension to “no boring day at work” is the challenges that engineers face each day, from designing to materializing that design. As an engineer, my real worth will always be in facing challenges head-on and utilizing my knowledge and natural curiosity as an artist to create things.

It will be a lot of fun to defy the assumptions and beliefs of other engineers in my field and show them how it is done.

A Chance to Build Future

Engineers contribute a lot to making society a better place. They are always looking out for new ideas to mold them into reality – to make lives easier and happier for others.

For instance, engineers, from Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, etc, created skyscrapers, medical devices for a clinical environment as well as appliances we use in our daily lives.

All of this combined help us progress and become advanced. As an engineer, there is no other way to be revered and be proud of your life achievements than by being considered a pioneer in your field.

Key Role in Nation Building

From early childhood, everyone gets attached to the nation he or she is born into. They love their city and the country as a whole and want to serve it in the best way possible. This is another strong motivation for me to become an engineer.

As an engineer, I will be able to play a key role in nation-building. From proper urban management to town planning and beyond, we engineers play a crucial part in developing nations.

With advanced infrastructure and all the amenities of life, our country would be one of the best in the world which will make us all proud.

Leadership & Responsibility

Engineering jobs need a great leader that can take responsibility for every task, whether it is easy or hard, a success or a failure. With a responsible leader at the helm, every team player feels confident and does not shy away from giving their best.

As a project manager and leader of my team of engineers, I will uplift my coworkers and help them come up with new ideas and then help them in making these ideas a reality through our own company.

Above all else, I will stand by my decisions and be responsible for everything I will be a part of. This is what makes a great candidate for a leadership role in engineering.

Concluding Remarks

With my deep interest in engineering and complete understanding of what it is to become an engineer, I know this profession suits me as my heart and head lie in it. I will not stop until I realize my dream to make my parent and my country proud.

Why Become An Engineer (Short Essay Sample)

To be creative and prosper in life, everyone needs to set some goals and then work hard to pursue them to the end. For many, it starts with choosing a profession that they are passionate about. For me, it is engineering.

My uncle was a successful engineer. I was always fascinated by his work and the projects he worked on. He held a responsible position at one of the country’s largest engineering firms. He told me that his role was to manage several teams working on multiple projects, from building dams to shopping malls and parks.

This piqued my interest in Civil Engineering when I was a little kid. I wanted to be a civil engineer too, like my uncle. When I told him what I wanted to be over the phone, he was very happy. But he asked, “Why do you want to be an engineer?” He knew the answer.

When he visited the next time, he brought a safety hat for me and a vest. As far as the attire went, I was already an engineer.

Since then, I am working hard on my grades in school to ensure I can get admission to the best engineering college for a bachelor’s degree. My teachers are already confident I would make it because I am improving my Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

I want to become an engineer when my time will come to serve my country. In my spare time, I experiment with designs for dams and buildings to make them stronger and more efficient. I showed my designs to my uncle and he was already very proud of my efforts. The best thing he did was helped me rectify errors in my designs. I felt as if I was a junior engineer working with a senior. I want to keep that feeling for the rest of my life until I would become a senior engineer and help out a junior to keep the chain reaction going.
