Why the Dental Office is My Dream Career Destination

On my first trip to the dentist, I remember feeling nervous and excited. My parents had told me what it was like to have my teeth cleaned, but I hadn’t experienced it before so I was banking on their stories.

When I got there, the dental assistant welcomed me with a warm smile. She knew that it was my first time coming in, so her calm confidence was comforting and assuring to me. She helped my parents fill out my information sheet and gave me a bunch of books to browse through while waiting for my turn at the dentist.

When it was my turn, she called me inside the room and helped me into the dental chair. She made sure that I was comfortable and explained to me what each of the instruments on the tray was and what they do. She also oriented me on what to expect from my first cleaning. By the time the dentist had arrived, my nerves were gone and I was ready to experience my first cleaning.

What made a difference in the way I conducted myself in that room was the kindness of the dental assistant. She is who I hope to become someday. I want to work in the dentist’s office as one of the many dental assistants who provide quality patient care and other administrative services.

The main reason why I am choosing this career path is the opportunity to become front-of-house in the dentistry practice. I have always enjoyed welcoming people into my home and making them feel safe and at ease. This is the kind of feeling I hope patients will get in interacting with me first as they enter the clinic. I want to be able to prepare patients physically and emotionally for their treatments and procedures. I want to try my best to ensure that when the dentist is ready to treat the patient, he or she is more or less relaxed and already knows what to expect.

One of the many tasks of dentist’s assistants is to operate medical equipment such as X-ray machines. I think that being present during these procedures is reassuring to patients. Just like how an assistant is present while the patient’s procedure is ongoing, I want to be able to help them be at ease when they are undergoing a lab procedure.

At the same time, assistants also perform tasks that are largely administrative in nature. They are the ones we talk to when we schedule appointments with the dentist, process our payments, and even fill out our insurance forms. I want to make these tedious routines as pleasant as possible by the way that I explain forms and procedures, and even update them in the waiting room.

My goal as an assistant is to help my patient feel comfortable throughout the whole process – from welcoming them to the dentist’s office, taking them through the process of tooth extractions or X-rays, to orienting them on proper dental hygiene and basic oral health. I think it is crucial that the assistant is the first and last person the patient sees upon entering and leaving the clinic. They are the ones who create both first and lasting impressions. I believe that they play a big part in determining whether or not a patient returns for more treatments.

Conclusion

I believe that being a dentist’s assistant can be fun and rewarding. Since I really enjoy dealing with people, I think that I can be quite successful in this particular career in health care. I am now in the process of canvassing community colleges that offer a great dentistry program. As I aim to finish my high school studies with strong marks, I hope that I can make a difference in dental care with my brand of patient care.

I believe that I possess all of the necessary characteristics of a great assistant: good organizational skills, dexterity, people skills, administrative strengths, and a love for the job. I look forward to a fulfilling dental career. I know that it can sometimes be challenging, but I am hopeful that staying purposeful will keep me grounded.

Why I Want To Be A Dental Hygienist (Short Essay Sample)

Ever since my very first dental appointment, I have always wanted to be a dental assistant. I find this role to be very multi-faceted, as it deals with the different aspects of dental practice.

First, I like the fact that they get to assist the dentist throughout the treatment. They help in making sure that a patient’s mouth is dry, they sterilize all of the instruments being used for the procedure, and they hand over the right instruments to the dentist in every part of the treatment. Therefore, they are always part of the action. They even fill cavities and apply sealant or fluoride as necessary.

Second, I like that they are front-of-house in the dentist’s office. They welcome patients as they enter, orient them on what to expect, make sure they are comfortable, and provide advice on oral hygiene.

Finally, and most importantly, I love that a big part of the job is relational. They engage patients to assure them that they are in good hands. They also set the tone and atmosphere for the patient experience by the way that they welcome patients and bid them goodbye.

❓ What Are The Qualities Of A Good Dentist?

An excellent dentist has good dexterity. He or she works with his or her hands well and has a “gentle touch,” which helps a patient feel at ease.
