The concept of reading books or watching movies has been in this world long before us and will probably remain after. In the olden times, people read books through literature written on organic pieces of parchments. On the other hand, before the invention of digital films, people used to see live theatre acts; however, as time passed, these activities changed significantly. As a result, the methods of reading and watching became more advanced. For instance, digital films in cinemas were introduced, and for reading, books comprising smooth pieces of paper were introduced. This led to making a comparison of films vs. movies.

Book reading and movie watching are the two most fundamental ways of conveying ideas to the spectators. Books and movies can be utilized for several purposes. For example, if the audience is in the mood for entertainment or some different mood. If a person thinks about a book and movie comparison, several things come up to their mind. For instance, books have words inscribed over pages. On the other hand, movies comprise an audio-visual system through which they convey information to the spectators. Furthermore, films and books have a lot in common if one thinks about it. One of the significant similarities between them is that they communicate exciting stories for the listeners or viewers. It does not matter as to which way these stories are communicated. Same efforts are put in to build the storyline by the authors or directors. Like, in a novel or a film, an individual must have a good plot that can keep the audience hooked throughout the work—for example, components like conflict, setting, characters, climax, and a resolution. All of these are used in the making of a terrific movie or a book. One of the significant similarities in books and movies is that each one uses protagonists or antagonists through which the main story is communicated. Also, in a movie or a book, the audience makes the final remarks on how the film or novel was.

Through this, we get to the part of ratings. Another similar thing in film vs movies compare and contrast are the ratings. What do viewers review first when they are about to watch a film or read a story? They check its ratings. Does it have a rating of 8 out of 10? If yes, then they go for it. One of the core similarities here is imagination. Every kind of book or movie always leaves the spectators in some imagination phase in the end. However, the genre of cliffhanger movies or books takes their imagination to the next level. Other than this, one more thing that movie and books do are the same. It is represented with the term ‘relatable.’  One might have often heard from people after reading or watching a book or movie. Films and books plot their storyline so that the readers can relate the story to their personal life. So, these were the main similarities that a book and movies have in them.

As technology became advanced, books and movies were read and shown online through the World Wide Web. Nevertheless, many people begin to question that, were movies better than the book? Now, coming towards the contrasting part of the books and movies, it has many things. Let’s start with the core difference between a film and a book. A film or movie uses visual pictures to build up the interest of its viewers. However, in a book, there are no visuals, let alone a simple picture. Although, if it is a children’s book only, it might contain several illustrations to tempt the kids into reading. The authors of the books leave the imagination process entirely to their readers. For example, in the book Fantastic beasts, the reader has to use their mind to imagine the magical and mystical creatures mentioned; because beasts mentioned in the book do not exist in real life and thus have to be imagined by readers, in the other case of movies, they represent lots of visual animations and pictures. For instance, in the Fantastic beast movie, there are many majestical creatures that an individual can not comprehend to imagine. It is one of the significant differences between a movie and a book. The audience watching the movie cannot imagine things as the directors have already shown what they want the audience to feel or see. The second most significant difference between a book or a film is the detail. An author puts in too much effort to provide a remarkable piece of text for the readers. They do this by providing details for every single thing in their story. For instance, in the Harry Potter and the cursed child book, Jk Rowling provided many details to build up the characters, occasions, places, and objects. If the author does not work on every inch of the book’s detail, it would not be as attractive as it would with the minor details. The detail part helps the reader create their movie mentally, thus enabling them to have the experience they desire. However, in movies, the directors do not significantly provide details for their spectators. It is because they know that choosing to direct a movie instead of writing a book already does fifty percent of their work for them.

With the help of visual animations, a movie can provide an extensive amount of details in a single shot. The third most essential difference between a movie and a book is time-consuming. This factor might cause many people to watch a movie preferably rather than reading a whole book. It is known and evident that reading a whole novel would consume a significant amount of an individual’s time rather than watching a two-hour movie. Movies at max are about four hours long. For instance, lord of the rings two or justice league remastered. However, if an individual sits down to read a whole novel, it might take them several days, even months!

Films and movies are both appropriate ways of communicating a story to the audience. Indeed, they adopt different methods to convey a message to their viewers; however, they consist of some similarities. Nevertheless, books and stories are excellent and better ways to communicate the lessons to their viewers and apply the same in society.
