William Foote Whyte and Stanley's Story from the Book "The Jackroller"

Article Critique Instructions:

Based on the excerpts from Whyte's autobiography, write about a paragraph describing your impression of William Foote Whyte. What kind of person is he by his years in college? What major factors shaped his life? Do you like him? Does the story “Queer” reflect any aspects of his life and/or personality? What do you make of his story.
Next, read Mike Giovanni's story. He is an North End Second Generation Italian American - one of the 'Corner Boys' - that Whyte interviewed and associated with. Write another paragraph on how you think his life differs from that of Whyte in terms of things like family structure, education, occupation, life experiences as youth and adults, and things like this? What accounts for the differences?
Finally, read "Stanley's Story" from a book called The Jackroller. Stanley was Polish American and grew up in an inner city neighborhood in Chicago. His life is clearly different from that of Whyte, but also from Mike's life. Both Mike and Stanely are children of immigrants and from poor urban areas, but in what ways are Mike's experiences different from Stanely's and what do you think accounts for the difference.
I am looking for your honest response to these readings. There is no correct answer and no specified length but credit will be given for thought and effort shown. Be ready to access your response in class to share it with the class.
